Emotions help us to think and to make effective decisions or they can derail our thinking and decision making if their information is not attended to and used. The Emotionally Literacy for Educators (ELE) workshop is an innovative full-day of training based on a “hard science” approach to what has historically been called “soft skills.” Primary and secondary school teachers learn how emotions impact student learning and performance, decision making, relationships, and work performance, and how they can harness the wisdom of emotions to become more effective teachers.

In this workshop, teachers learn to apply five areas of emotion knowledge: Recognition, Understanding, Labeling, Expression, and Regulation (RULER). The workshop emphasizes the role and importance of this knowledge in academic performance, building quality relationships, making informed decisions, and managing and leading classrooms. This highly interactive workshop teaches innovative strategies using group activities, simulations, discussions, and skill-building tools. Teachers learn how to leverage this knowledge using a powerful tool – the EL Blueprint – to handle their multiple roles and challenges such as: managing classrooms, coping more effectively with stress, improving relationships at school and at home, becoming a better leader and decision maker, and enhancing overall quality of life.

For further details and registration information, please contact, Sharon LeClair sleclair@sd43.bc.ca
Cost for workshop $50.00 and includes “Emotional Literacy for Educators Workbook, MoodMeter and Blueprint Poster” and lunch.

Emotional Literacy for Educational Leaders

Presentation by Dr. Marc Bracket ( bio)

Emotions help us to think and to make effective decisions or they can derail our thinking and decision making if their information is not attended to and used. In this presentation, I describe the Emotional Literacy for Administrators (ELA) Training Program. The ELA is an innovative, highly interactive program rooted in a “hard science” approach to what has historically been called “soft skills.” Participants will learn how emotions impact student learning, teacher performance, managing and leading teams, decision making, work performance and their own mental health. Another focus is on how to harness the wisdom of emotions to become more effective leaders. The workshop emphasizes the role and importance of five key emotion skills (Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulation emotion) in building a relationship driven school culture.
